Southeast Asia Trafficking Crisis
One of the Largest Trafficking Operations Ever…
The 2020 coup in Myanmar unleashed a wave of crime, trafficking, and global insecurity. Over the past two years, regional instability and cross-border agreements have fueled transnational organized crime. Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) calls it one of the largest trafficking operations ever seen in Southeast Asia.
Trillion-Dollar Scam…
This criminal enterprise rakes in a staggering $3 trillion annually. With over 120,000 victims in Myanmar and nearly 300,000 in the region, the scale of exploitation is alarming. Many victims are educated foreign nationals from 45+ nations seeking legitimate employment. Instead, they're trafficked across borders, forced into scams, and subjected to abuse and torture for non-compliance.
We have actively contributed to aiding nearing 100 victims.
Acts of Mercy International is responding to this crisis on the border of Thailand and Myanmar. Our team, with expertise in underdeveloped communities and anti-trafficking, has been in the region for nearly a decade. We are now responding to this new and emerging human trafficking and human rights crisis. We have been in the epicenter of this crisis responding to the immediate needs of these victims of human trafficking for forced criminality on their journey to freedom. Our team is actively engaging in rescue, providing shelter, food and basic needs as well as providing advocacy and support as they navigate their way home.
